Franziska & Sam - Lake George Winery Wedding Canberra

Sam and Fran are two of the loveliest people I’ve ever met, and I get to meet some really incredible people!

I first met Sam and Fran in November of 2021, when Sam planned a surprise proposal by the beach at Nelson Bay. I instantly knew that I wanted to work with these two again. Their zest for life and each other was almost infectious, and I felt as if I had known them for years! So when they booked me as their wedding photographer for their wedding at Lake George Winery in Canberra, my response was a million times YES!

Lake George Winery wasn't just a stunning venue with award-winning wines and delectable food; it was the perfect canvas for their dream wedding. Surrounded by rolling vineyards and breathtaking views, it offered a magical backdrop for a celebration that would etch itself in everyone's memory.

Sam's morning unfolded amidst laughter and excitement at his parent's home. The bouzouki melodies of Stratos, a talented musician, added a vibrant touch to the preparations. Meanwhile, Fran relaxed in the winery's beautiful homestead, exchanging heartfelt letters with Sam – an emotion-filled prelude to the day's vows.

Prioritising quality time with their loved ones, who'd travelled from Sweden, Sam and Fran opted for a first look and couple portraits before the ceremony. Their eyes met with pure adoration in a lush forest oasis near the homestead, setting the tone for the rest of the day. The first look extended to Fran's father and brother, which proved to be just as emotional as the first look with Sam.

Blessed with sunshine, Sam and Fran's ceremony unfolded at the winery under a majestic oak tree. Celebrant Sarah-Marie wove a beautiful narrative, incorporating Fran's heritage with a unique act of union – sawing a log in half as a symbol of conquering life's challenges together. Of course, there were hiccups with the log, adding a touch of laughter and teamwork to the ceremony. The triumph over the log cutting made the confetti throw even more celebratory, with every guest and the couple grinning from ear to ear.

What I loved about Lake George Winery was the vastness that offered endless photo possibilities. Cocktail hour saw us meandering through the vineyards, capturing the infectious energy of the wedding party as they basked in the golden afternoon light. Sam and Fran's eyes were constantly on each other, radiating a love that warmed the landscape.

But the pièce de résistance was the bridal party's grand entrance into the reception. Groomsmen led the way, followed by a vibrant procession of dancing bridesmaids. Then came Sam and Fran, accompanied by Stratos and Theo, whose bouzouki and drums ignited the party spirit. The dance floor erupted as guests, young and old, joined in a spirited Zorba, turning the reception into a joyous festival.

The night unfolded like an absolute dream, from heartfelt speeches to sunset vineyard portraits, from traditional games to energetic dancing. Even I put down my camera at the end of the night to join the celebrations, surrounded by the bouzouki's infectious rhythm and celebratory atmosphere.

Sam and Fran's wedding was a vibrant tapestry of love, laughter, and a touch of Greek magic. It was a privilege to be part of their story, and I know these memories will bring joy for years to come.
