I met with a lovely old school friend Emily and her beautiful family in the picturesque town of Tanilba Bay recently. Emily had completed her training to be a Doula and wanted a few natural headshot images for her new website. However, we may have been a bit distracted by her cheeky daughter attempting to chase baby crabs up and down the beach.
So, what is a Doula?
Emily describes a Doula as "a trained, non-medical professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support and guidance to women and their families on their reproductive journeys". And if there was ever a person who was put on this planet for a specific purpose - then this was Emily's.
Throughout our session, Emily spoke so passionately about wanting to be able to help other women to feel empowered about becoming a mother. She wanted to nurture, support, care and listen in any way she could. Even if that meant being the shoulder to cry on in the wee hours of the morning. All whilst caring for and raising her daughter to be the best person she can be. Incredible.
Family photoshoots like these are the reason why I do what I do.
Raw emotion, laughter, love, dummy spits, and adventure. All paired with good conversation from a few awesome humans.
